Dragon Innovation (acquired by Avnet in 2017) provides solutions for the fastest, simplest, and safest way for companies to manage manufacturing complex products at scale. Founded in 2009 by the leadership team at iRobot who launched and scaled the first 4MM Roomba®s, Dragon Innovation has deep experience with high-volume electro-mechanical products. Our customer portfolio, encompassing both early stage and established companies, includes Ring, Dropcam, Shopify, SharkNinja, American Kennel Club, Sphero, Makerbot, reMarkable, Theragun, Coravin, and many more of the top name brands in innovative technology.
Dragon’s team—located in Cambridge, MA, Seattle, WA, Shanghai, China, Shenzhen, China, Hong Kong, HK, and Amsterdam, The Netherlands—focuses on the path from Prototype to Production with unmatched human expertise that simplifies and de-risks the New Product Introduction (NPI) process. Over the last decade, Dragon Innovation has been a manufacturing partner to hundreds of companies producing millions of quality products on time and on budget.
Scott N. Miller and Herman Pang met while establishing the Far East Manufacturing team for the first-generation Roomba at iRobot.
Well before iRobot, Scott and Herman were solving complex engineering problems. Scott has been fascinated with hardware since he was old enough to hold a screwdriver. He worked on a robotic tuna fish, life-size robotic dinosaurs for Disney Imagineering, and robotic baby dolls with Hasbro, before joining iRobot where he was responsible for leading the Roomba team to scale the functional prototype to high-volume production of the first three million units.
Herman earned his insight into factory operations and high-volume manufacturing as an operator. Leading an automobile supply factory, Herman worked to obtain the first QS-9000 verification in China and Hong Kong.
After serving as the Far East Project Leader for Hasbro’s first-generation FurReal Friends, Herman joined iRobot. As Managing Director in the Far East, Herman oversaw Supply Chain, Costing & Sourcing, New Product Introduction, and Quality, and was instrumental in the launch of Roomba, Scooba, Looj and ConnectR.
Realizing that other hardware companies face the same problems with managing cost, consistent quality and controlling their schedule, they established Dragon Innovation in 2009. Early wins with Makerbot, Sphero and Pebble help to build out a successful manufacturing consulting services business focused on consumer electronic teams going from prototype to production.
